工作与事业 Job vs. Career

A job, an occupation, or a profession, whatever you call it, is a way of making a living. It is something about a simple earthly dream. It is to make it possible for us to continue to be. If fortune enough, we may earn a  decent life. But that is all. Nothing  we can see beyond.

A career, an enterprise, or a cause, name it anyway you like, is a project of realizing a meaning. It is absolutely a great heavenly ambition. It is to make our being meaningful. What matters is not the  outcome everybody else  is aspiring to, but the endeavor we ourselves make. As long as you keep trying, you are successful. So much we  can learn from it.

For so long, I have buried myself in my teaching, the only way I can think of to make a living. No, I didn't think it was only a job. And ever since I turned a teacher ten years ago, never have I considered it simply a way of living. It will be my life-long cause. My meaning of life will be embodied in education (more than teaching). I have been telling myself so.

Ten years later, now, an experienced teacher I am already. To some, I am also an excellent teacher. I am coming so close to my professional dream. Leaders commend me. Colleagues compliment me. Students praise me.

Can't be nicer, but how is your living?  And how is your meaning? Difficulities and setbacks in life keep reminding myself of these questions and many others. Thousands of questions omitted here. I am standing at a crossroad! (Drafted 24/09)
